Privacy Policy

Your places, your choices. My Places is designed to keep saved information on your device and put you in control.

Last updated: November 6, 2026

1. Introduction

Welcome to My Places, a mobile application developed and published by an independent developer based in Spain.

We respect your privacy and aim to minimize the collection and processing of personal information. My Places follows a local-first approach: information you save is stored on your own device rather than in a developer-controlled database.

Most of the application works offline. In fact, the information of your places and localizations never go out of your phone or device, unless you manually export them into a JSON file and send it manually somewhere else using another application.

The only screen that requires internet connection is the map view and the search inside it, when you want to save a place goegraphical cordinates and map link. Nevertheless, this information is consumed, not shared, and never leaves your device. This policy explains how information is accessed, used, stored and protected.

2. Information and local storage

My Places does not require an account and does not directly request names, email addresses, telephone numbers, postal addresses, social media profiles or contact lists.

2.1 Information saved by you

The app uses Flutter's shared_preferences package to store information locally on your device, which may include:

You may save the coordinates of any place in the world, whether or not you are physically there. Saved coordinates do not necessarily represent your current location or movements.

The developer does not receive or have access to this locally saved information. You can manage or delete it using available app features or device settings. Device backup and restoration features may also apply.

2.2 Optional device location

My Places may request access to your device's current location when you choose to use a location-based feature.

You may separately choose to save your current location or any other place. Those voluntarily saved coordinates remain in local app storage, subject to the device's backup settings.

3. Offline functionality

Most features, including access to locally saved places and preferences, work without an internet connection. Online map display and place/address searches require internet access. When offline, the app does not make these online mapping requests.

4. Third-party mapping services

My Places uses OpenStreetMap data and mapping or geographical search services. When you use online map features, the service handling the request may receive technical information such as your IP address, request timestamps, map requests, search terms or geographical coordinates submitted for a search.

These services may process information according to their own policies. The developer does not receive your locally saved collection of places or preferences.

Read the OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy.

5. How information is used

Information is used to display maps, search for places, show your current location when requested, manage saved places and maintain app settings. The developer does not use locally saved information for advertising, profiling or marketing.

6. Legal basis for processing — GDPR

For users in the European Economic Area, applicable processing is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): Where consent is the appropriate basis, it may be requested for location-related processing and can be withdrawn.

Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): Limited technical processing may be justified for secure and effective app functionality where the legal conditions are met.

Granting device location permission does not necessarily constitute GDPR consent for every processing activity.

7. Storage and retention

Saved places, coordinates and preferences are stored locally using shared_preferences. The developer does not maintain a remote database of this information. Local data generally remains until you delete it, clear app data or uninstall the app, subject to operating-system backup and restoration behavior.

Accessing current GPS location does not automatically save it. Third-party mapping services may retain request information according to their own policies.

8. Data security

My Places minimizes remote storage and transmission of user-saved information. Local data is protected by your device's operating-system security mechanisms. Flutter's shared_preferences is not an encrypted secure-storage solution, and operating-system backups may apply. No electronic storage system can guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's privacy

My Places is intended for a general audience, including children. It does not require registration or deliberately ask for children's names, email addresses or telephone numbers. Device location is optional and permission-based.

Where applicable law requires parental or guardian authorization for a child's personal-data processing, the required authorization must be obtained before that processing. Parents and guardians can contact the developer with privacy concerns.

10. Your rights under the GDPR

Where applicable, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or port personal data; object to certain processing; and withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

Because information is primarily stored locally, you can manage much of it on your device. For privacy requests, contact the developer below. Users in Spain can also contact the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

11. California privacy rights

This section addresses the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA), to the extent applicable.

My Places does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising and does not use third-party advertising or remarketing. The developer does not collect locally saved places and preferences through a developer-controlled server.

Where these laws apply, eligible users may have rights to know, access, correct or delete personal information, opt out of its sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive information and exercise their rights without unlawful discrimination. Contact the developer with applicable requests.

12. International data transfers

My Places does not operate a remote database for users' saved places. Online mapping providers may process network requests using infrastructure in other countries, subject to applicable law and their privacy practices.

13. Advertising, analytics and payments

My Places does not currently display ads, use Google Analytics or similar tracking tools, use remarketing, sell personal information, offer in-app purchases or subscriptions, or send marketing emails.

14. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in app functionality, services or legal requirements. The latest version will be published here with an updated date. Additional notice or consent will be provided where required by law.
